I often say get better not bitter.Or if life hands you a lemon make some lemon aid and take a cool drink. It is not always easy to see the bright side of bad things but it is there. Unfortunately we are bombarded with negativity, anger daily through the media we choose to pollute our minds with. If we put garbage in we get garbage out. You really can turn it off but it takes a choice. There is the jealously and or competition of so called “friends” and even relatives that cross our path and want to dump their trash in our laps and compare notes. All of these external attacks on our minds and hearts can only do damage if we choose to join their game. I choose not to. Sure I stumble and fall into some nonsense that really has no bearing on what is important in life. Gossip, pointing the finger at others just has bad vibe all over it. I dislike getting pulled into it and even more when I open my mouth and say something that does not build up another. I try my best to be silent if I have nothing to say. Those who know me know I need to try a lot harder.But there is another side if one has ears to hear and eyes to see. And it is that of the refinement and or tempering process these challenges in life can cause in our being if we let it. Coming from a steel working background I understand tempering and refining.Refining removes impurities or unwanted elements from the substance being refined. We can all understand refined gold or silver some are not as pure as others and thus not as valuable. But if it is refined again and again it will be made pure for maximum value.Tempering is a heat treatment technique applied to ferrous alloys, such as steel or cast iron, to achieve greater toughness by decreasing the hardness of the alloy.I like that! A greater toughness by decreasing the hardness, it almost does not make sense. Oh but it does. Most of the nonsense that pollutes us is lies. Lies like real men don’t cry or big girls don’t cry or I will never let another person hurt me again. So we develop a hardness to be something that down deep inside we really are not. Hence living the lie and becoming the very thing we despise. I will use me as my little example. As the heat of a situation is applied I go through changes and emotions and thoughts and reasoning much like the steel molecules when heated are realigned. Then a rapid quenching locks that alignment in place and this new structure is much tougher then before for the task it is being tempered for. Different tempered tools for different jobs. A file can cut and smooth the edge of a hammer. But that hammer can break the same file into pieces. Each has a unique use.My rapid quenching may be a conclusion or plan of how to deal with the challenge at hand. Sometimes I and we don’t know what to conclude or how to make a plan. We have the gift of counsel be it a therapist or simply one friend to another. But if I am so hard and think I can do it myself or to prideful to let someone I trust in on my pain and struggle then I miss the best outcome of the challenge for a mediocre one. That is just step one. Do we not repeat the same things over again? How many of us have come full circle and back knocking at the same door? It’s as if life is trying to help us get it right by giving us opportunity to change our game plan. If I am not getting the result I want I need to change what I am doing. The first thing to do when I find myself in a ditch is to stop digging, or complaining, gossiping or pointing the finger. A mirror is a good start. I got myself here I need to own up to the reality of my human failure rate. But as the toughness increases, not letting the nonsense distract me and fear to rule me. Then in my problem I can take it in stride and let my challenge be of helpful use to another. And that other very well might just have the ladder needed to get out of my ditch. I am no longer hard with no flex and breakable. But I am pliable and learning my weakness and ready for the next challenge. Refinement is a process it’s hot one can have pain during it but the outcome is well worth the discomfort. Like child birth. But if we are hard we will hate the child and blame the innocent for our pain. My maker has a special plan and use for me and YOU! And clearing away all the distractions of that plan can take years. Just like the many dips into the quenching oil will produce the right tool or several times in the refiner’s fire produces the purest gold. I find it is better to not fight the refinement but embrace it. It is not easy then again nothing of value is. But it is doable and you are of MUCH VALUE.This song is my heart cry in this area of life refinement.Peace and Love
