this was pure "Airplane", nothing "Starship" about it. Love listening to Grace on background. Her harmonies with Marty are still there on this tune.

1989 I was newly Divorced and what memories. This song was #1 on the charts for a bit. First time I heard it I know it would be a hit.

Marty & Grace always sounded so good together especially when their voices soared in the higher register

You need to learn the history of the band (s).Starship never became 'Jefferson Airplane', again. The only connection between the two bands was Grace Slick. Grace left 'Starship' in 1988 to rejoin the reunited Jefferson Airplane in 1989 (in which this album came out). Starship released an album that same year without Grace called 'Love Among The Cannibals. Jefferson Airplane originally ran from 1965 to 1972. Jefferson Starship (1974/1984) & Starship (1985/1991) Grace was the only connection.

Karategal: You are probably right....about the legal thing. Isn't it always the way in big business and big heads clashing. It's just that with Grace singing it, it covered a big umbrella of all the music 'greats' for that era. I'm going to check around to find a tape or something of Grace singing 'Summer of Love'. Gotta have it! Karategal, thanks for your response.

I was working at music store when this song came out. I remember Grace Slick did get back together with Marty for this Jefferson Airplane album. She was having problems with the lead singer of Starship at the time. There was no follow-up after this album and Grace left Starship too. I think there was some legal fight about Jefferson Airplane vs.Jefferson Starship, which was they resolved with a joint Best of album, but don't quote me. This was years ago and my memory is a little hazy.

The one thing I truly remember when this song hit the airways was that Grace Slick was in lead vocals. I cannot find that version anywhere now. The last time I heard that version was about three years ago right here on youtube. Then BAM it was gone. I wonder why? She did a great job on this song. And that's how I remember this song - with Grace singing it. Now I only find Marty Balin singing it. Anybody else remember?

Not bad, but the song doesn't really make me think it's being performed by Jefferson Airplane, and it's not much different from "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship except that it isn't penned by Diane Warren.
