Marty was the inventor of the Jefferson Airplane concept, and a really awesome singer and song writer, but he had the disadvantage of not being a superhot woman. That is why he is not as famous as Grace. But the true Jefferson Airplane fans know how great he was. I think Grace was phenomenal too. The whole band was.

If you don't like Grace you either never saw her, or you went to shows and STILL didn't see her :) "Turn out the lights or we'll send Owsley to get ya"...the sum is often greater than the parts with great bands. I hung out in the City a lot, 1967-1973, as a pre-teen, but remember it well. It was a culture unlike any before or since, and isn't likely to be repeated. The Airplane, I believe, is the best of the SF bands, although a good mention is given to Grape's early work. Sure would be nice for some JA reunions, anything is possible.

The Airplane,Hot Tuna, Jefferson Starship ,Starship ,Jorma, Mart,y Grace, Papa John,Jack Spencer, Craig,All have had solos can you name 1 American or otherwise band with as many varieties and or choices ?? What American band was any bigger or had as much success 60s,70's 80's and even still w/ Cathy Richardson they are a BLAST!

I love a lot about this group but in spite of some great songs, I think their post Surrealistic Pillow trajectory pointed ever downward due to their 6 musicians in search of an arrangement ethos. Here, Jorma Kaukonen displays his weak-link status for all to hear. You can see Slick's displeasure at his rotten note choices over a brilliant song with so many fantastic chord shifts that a guitarist's task should be minimal. But oh no, there are lousy blues notes to play :-( aren't there Jorma.
