this is just Jeff Beck using the blues progression of a great american composer to back up his brainless doodling of unassociated blues licks. This is NOT meant to be a rock song. There is a deep spirituality in the REAL song by Mingus that comes from the persecution of blacks in america, that can only be expressed by talented JAZZ musicians ( ref Joni Mitchell's lyrics on the eponymous song). The real song utilizes voice leading, tritone substitutions, altered chords,and the sound of the real blues . This is nonsense, but it sure has made a lot of money for Mr Beck. And a lot of rockers think they know jazz.
