This one is of off Jay's solo LP "Terroir Blues" and the whole disk is in a class of it's own. It is a tough one to find these days. Jay is also lead singer of Son Volt and used to be a co-writer with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, in a band called Uncle Tupelo. As far as I am concerned these guys started the entire genre of Alternative Country. Extremely underrated!

Mr. Carlson I read your post and it sounded as if you are a fan of Jay Farrar. I would like to know if there is a video of what you described in your post and if you know of any other songs of his that are as melodic as Dent County?

pfsister, I too heard this song for the first time when I saw the movie Chrystal and I can remember trying to look at the credits at the end of the movie to see the name of, and who sang the song, but a lot of times they roll the credits so fast at the end of movies it's almost impossible to see them. I got lucky and was able to see what it was. What a beautiful song. I had never heard of Jay Farrar before, but I'm glad that I was able to. Peace

This song reminds me of my father. Powerful stuff and deep. I saw Jay play this not long after his dad passed. I damn near hit my knees.

@nsplatzer More a Woody or Leadbelly, I love the in your face lyrics. I think Jay's more then happy to, as Wood play them to 3 chords. Great poet, songwriter! Long may you run too Jay!!!

How does Jay think up songs & music like this. To me another Mozart. His Slaughter Rule instrumentals are another example. Thanks

I Heard this song today in the movie Chrystal. Fell in love with it. Looked this up and can't stop listening. I know Jay is from St Louis, which I am also. I was wondering if this song is about Dent County MO. I now plan to go see them at The Pageant. Can't wait!!
