Probably the closest to Roy.

Roy Orbison considered it an honor if others sang his songs, he was very considerate and kind regarding other performers, even giving a leg up to some and advice to the Beatles. - Although I love the sound of Jay and the Americans, they do not hold a candle to Roy here. The best example of honoring Roy was from K. D. Lang [Roy and K. D. singing Crying]. To tncdel below, Roy made his own rules regarding sound and I honor his memory.

Very nice and the closest to the greatest rock singer ever, Roy Orbison. I think the background music detracts. Roy used to do this live, and re sing the ending, as if to say, "yeah, I can do that at will!"

The Wizard of Rock and Roll

Besides seeing them at Murray the K R&R Revues in NYC.in early 60's; I had the chance to see them at the Cafe Wha ! It's in Greenwich Village. That's where The Wizard's confusion began! That night the lead Vocalist ,me being a big fan of Jay & the Americans, was different! My friend with me said I was nuts but at the end of the show they introduced their new lead singer...I'm still not sure what happened, I'll Google it to see the story told on the net ,if there 's one ,to be told...a story that is???Ok , The first Jay Traynor left after only 1 hit "She Cried" ,but Jay Black was who I saw at the Cafe Wha. I also had noticed the face didn't match the original Jay's too:but although he was different ,he still had a great voice ,his name was David Blatt . He changed it to Jay Black. Later on , a thied Jay took the lead and changed his name John to Jay AHHHHHH! Show Biz ! Always a great Vocal group and don't forget its ties to Steely Dan ! But ,thats another story !

First time I heard this I thought somebody screwed up and loaded the Roy Orbison version.

I wonder if Jay Black does this song as a tribute to Roy Orbison. I think that if Roy were alive today he would be proud of Jay's rendition of this song.

I remember going to many live concerts when Jay was in his 40's and 50's (too bad no records released) and his voice was breathtaking, it had sheer magnitude that compared to the famous 3 Tenors. (Pavarotti, Domingo, Carerras)

Elvis = King of Rock n Roll (honorary), Little Richard = Queen of Rock n Roll, Chuck Berry = Rock n Roll (pure and simple)

Chuck Berry was on the ground floor of Rock n Roll folks, along with Jerry Lee Lewis. Think about it. ; )
