You are 100% correct - that is why Alan J and George S did a duet called "Death on Music Row". The lyrics changed, the instrumentation changed and the song writing for the most part changed. Country Western is now warmed over Pop. This song makes you cry whereas The modern stuff just makes you change the dial.
