I first heard Otis Spanns version of this song some years back. While Otis spann plays in in more of a straight blues style. Mistah Booker has taken what was an original blues tune and thrown in some soul, gospel, funk, blues and made it all his own. Gotta love JB!

I've only vaguely heard about James Booker in the past until a BBC radio programme did a sound Bio of his work at 11am Today. Strange how talent remains submerged while mediocrity floats to the top... Strange indeed

I had the pleasure of spending time with Booker during his shows at the Toulouse Theatre, 1981. He played a set every night before the performance of the play, "One Mo Time" He had a pad one block down by Decatur and we would take our "break" there.

You got that right! I love the baseball references - especially Willie Mays, who was incredibly unique to his time. Many honor and play Booker, I've even seen Booker channeled at tribute shows, but there will only be ONE James Carroll Booker III. Even if they capture the technique, they can only approach the tortured soul of this genius which was the center of the universe of his brilliance. RIP may your music live forever!
