J. S. Bach - Prelude in C Major (BWV 846) by David Marion Bass Player...

For my brother Sébastien Marion and my really good friend bass player extraordinaire Cameron Hood. Played on bass with lots of respect for all classically trained musicians...

Johann Sebastian Bach (pronounced [joˈhan/ˈjoːhan zeˈbastjan ˈbax]) (31 March 1685 [O.S. 21 March] 28 July 1750) was a German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity.[1] Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled[citation needed] control of harmonic and motivic organisation in composition for diverse musical forces, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France.

Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos; the Goldberg Variations; the English Suites, French Suites, Partitas, and Well-Tempered Clavier; the Mass in B Minor; the St. Matthew Passion; the St. John Passion; the Magnificat, The Musical Offering; The Art of Fugue; the Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo; the Cello Suites; more than 200 surviving cantatas; and a similar number of organ works, including the celebrated Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.

While Bach's fame as an organist was great during his lifetime, he was not particularly well-known as a composer. His adherence to Baroque forms and contrapuntal style was considered "old-fashioned" by his contemporaries, especially late in his career when the musical fashion tended towards Rococo and later Classical styles. A revival of interest and performances of his music began early in the 19th century, and he is now widely considered to be one of the greatest composers in the Western tradition.

DAVID MARION began his musical career at the age of 6 by playing a variety of musical instruments. By 10, he changed his focus from clarinet to drums and, then, began his career in bass guitar at 16.

To further cultivate his interest as a bass player, he attended C.I.M., a jazz music institute located in his native land of Paris, France.

From there, DAVID MARION continued his studies and obtained a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

He also got the opportunity to take lessons with the great VICTOR WOOTEN from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, STEVE BAILEY and ADAM NITTI at the Bass/Nature Camp in Nashville, TN.

Raised as a Christian and inspired by artists like Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin, he gained more experience by playing with Gospel bands (New Gospel Family, Jo Ann Pickens, Gospel Act, Maggie Blanchard, Exo...). Since then, he has performed world-wide (Europe, Australia, Africa, Pacific, Canada...) with various television/radio appearances (Hit Machine, Top of the Pop, Urban Rush, 20h10 pétante, CBC, Fréquence Jazz...) for different genres of music (Rock, Pop, Soul, Folk-Rock, Gospel, World, Smooth Jazz...).

David Marion, this is an amazing piece. I play this exact same thing, all the time for warming up to play with my group of friends. I play along with you, and you have an amazing sound. You have great musicianship with letting the chords blend together. Thank you so much for posting this, you are amazing, and thanks for helping me be a better bass player every day!

Tab and notation are available in a book called J.S. Bach for Bass. By Josquin des Pres. This piece is the first one in the book and was just under $18.00 US when I got it in '98. Have fun!

Very nice, David! This is a study-piece that I've been working on. Much respect for your fluidity. I like how you played the upper-register stuff down low. Have you tried Suite #1 in Gmaj?
