No. It sounds like an album made by a very good and experienced new wave band. You're just peeved because they didn't make more of your favourite prog. It's actually one of my fave 80s albums.

I agree it's hard to believe they are the same guys who did Three Friends, Octopus, In a Glass House, The Power and the Glory, Free Hand and Interview, but we have to understand their hands were tied by 1977. The recording industry and market were changing, people were starting to listen to different music... They had to adapt to survive, like in evolution. That's why there was a big change in sound on The Missing Piece and, consequently, on the other 2 albums, in 78 and 80.

This title is more than appropriate, there was no imagination at all in the making of this pathetic album. Or brilliance, or talent, or experimentation. Not a single trace of the real Gentle Giant Sounds like a very bad and cheesy new wave band. I still can't believe these are the same guys who made "On Reflection" or "Free Hands"
