when subculture becomes mainstream new subcultures are created and it becomes a cycle... when things are born and new they are considered to be underground and special and then when everyone begins to come around it isnt special anymore but that doesnt mean it isnt good.. judge everything based on its merit.. i didnt even watch the video because i dont care what they have to say. they just wanted to find something controversial to discuss. only got 3k hits so far so i guess they didnt succeed

Yea I know, all I was saying is that there are a lot of talented musicians in metal and none of them get any recognition in mainstream media. I think there are a bunch of talented musicians in, say Aussie hip hop and rock and punk also.

not saying that the Black Keys are blues, just that they are unique and talented artists, unseen in most of mainstream today.

Metal isn't the only "talented" type of music today. I personally am big into Blues and that became unpopular long ago. The only reason I have some hope in the mainstream is because the Black Keys have managed to get the attention they deserve.

Not that it's really bad when Indie artists become big, because that just means they can make money doing what they love. It's kinda a win/lose situation.

Indie music is a bit more special than just good music, because it's by principal not so well known, like finding a really really rare gem. You love it because it's a gem, just as you love good indie music because it's good music, but you love it even more because it's rare. Thats why its sadening when Indie stars become big, since it takes the connection away between the listener & artist. I'll always love Adele, but I'll never love her like Don't Sigh Daisy (a small, independent artist).

this was right on the money! the only thing that really worries me is if government or those in charge of other mediums are going to try to put more controls on "democratic" mediums like youtube and facebook, etc.
