Awesome intro ! ;)

Lyrics : Your prayers,

I don't feel them in my heart

It is not hate

That I stare coldly at the son of god

I can not force the blood of Christ

To flow through me

God is love and his love is dead

Drown your sorrows in prayer

But your prayers will never change the world

I separate myself

From those who chase the spirit

I can't fall to my knees

And pretend like all the rest

This is a soul that doesn't need saving

Their paradise not mine; an illusion I will not believe

Divine presence of perfection, turns sour in my gaze

Why should I feel compassion for the suffering of your God

For all the pain he allows,I give him what he deserves

In the name of the Father,

In the name of the Son

Where is the Holy Spirit, I feel nothing

As I stare upon the crucifix, I feel nothing for a God I never knew

I refuse to embrace, and live by his word

I take not of his body

I take not of his blood

I don't need salvation

Or his forgiveness

I don't want his kingdom

My kingdom is here !

Probably one of the more influential death metal songs of all time. Amazing instrumentation, timing and skill. Fuckin awesome, in the true sense of the word.

Just as influential perhaps, but I was arguing that if we're gonna call someone the godfather of death metal it would be Chuck. Chuck is probably the most influential to death metal itself.

Don't know either but it must be something around the line "teh internets : power to the mentally chanllenged".

why didnt Immolation continue to use that kick-ass band logo on all their album covers? Dying Fetus also seem to have abandoned their cool-looking logo for an extremely plain looking one.

Slayer was huge to death metal, but not doing growls was also huge in them being considered thrash, and not death. Theyre basically more brutal thrash with more double bass.

What the fuck are you talking about? Chuck wasn't a singer in Control Denied -.-

Sorry for the double post, but calling Chuck a godfather does not imply that he was responsible for ALL other bands that sounded like death metal. Ex. I read in an interview that Pestilence was influenced heavily by Destruction. Death metal came from thrash and probably would have happened without Chuck, but Chuck was still very influential. Who the fuck cares what you label chuck though. A word like "godfather" is very ambiguous anyways.

I've heard many notable dm bands/artists say that Scream Bloody Gore was a big inspiration/influence for them to play death metal. As far as I'm concerned SBG was probably the first album that was death metal solidified. There were a few other borderline death metal but thrash bands doing something similar before, but SBG and Chuck still hold a lot of importance in the genre. Stuff like Immolation kind of went a different path musically than chuck. More brutal/obscure, still very good though.

I will however always love Chuck, and I used to absolutely love Symbolic and ITP. Those were the albums that allowed me to get into Death metal as I would never listen to anything with growled vocals before listening to those borderline growled albums. Schuldiner was a good guitarist, and did much to further the early extreme metal scene and the evolution of Death metal. It just kills me when people call Chuck the "godfather" of DM, like he single handedly invented the genre or something..

Tim Aymar was the vocalist in Control Denied; not Schuldiner. I don't think that Christian music should be banned or anything silly like that, I just think that Death metal by its very nature is anti Christian, and that Chuck's lyrics post Human were preachy, hypocritical, and faux intellectual. Historically, Chuck was an asshole to the members of his band (evidenced by the ever changing lineup), and nobody in the community (other metal bands) liked him much.

And when I was talking about Morbid Angel I meant their latest shitty release lol.

I don't think it was overly preachy. I guess I'm not overly stressed about the image of any form of music. If I listen to death metal I don't care if it's anti christian or going on some deep trip about something to do with life. I'm not fazed so long as the music sounds good and it makes itself apparent why it should be here. And what's wrong with Chuck doing a new kind of vocals in a band that had nothing to do with death metal? That just means he was extremely talented.

Schuldiner wrote fairly technical overly preachy garbage after Human man. I'm sorry to say it but it's the truth. I agree that Morbid Angel released a couple of shitty albums (Domination) but Formulas was good. Schuldiner un inverted the cross in Death's logo and even reverted to NWOBHM vocals in Control Denied. He completely pussified and changed his music; selling out on the genre that he helped create. Death Metal is by its very definition anti Christian/Abrahamaic monotheism. sorry..

Behemoth and God Dethroned are both good bands. Nile I'm not too fond of; in any event, Immolation and Suffocation are not generic at all as they were pioneering bands in a sub style that over time perhaps became a tad bit generic because of all the copy cat acts. when Human Waste was released, nothing on the market sounded like it. Suffocation is probably the single most ripped off old school death metal band; the reason for this is that they're incredibly talented and innovative.

It has a generic sound. Try bands like Nile, Behemoth and God Dethroned if you want to hear what creativity sounds like

Not sure how you can't like Symbolic. Pretty highly regarded in the community and is a legendary album. And Death never really sold out, sure he wasn't overly blasphemous but that isn't a required thing to play death metal, they continued to write quality albums until his death. His joining of Christianity only affected the lyrics but in no way affected the quality of the music that was played. And at least he didn't go ahead and make really bad industrial crap (ie Morbid Angel).
