This is pretty funny, how much time he spends talking about wood that is.  Wood has no effect whatsoever on the sound of a guitar with magnetic pickups when it's plugged in.  This has been proven time and time again -- search youtube, a guy made a strat out of kitchen countertop particle board, it sounded exactly the same...

This is like the one guitar that actually is deserving of a signature model.  The way he plays it and the way he transformed playing guitar called for a model like this.  It's a shame it's so expensive; Ibanez guitars do not hold their value and their resale value is low.  All that said, really, there are very few people who can make correct use of an eight string (or seven string), even the vast majority of six string players are going to be lost to the masses.  In the end it isn't the instrument or the amp or the gear or the production; it's the fingers, the ability to write new, innovative music, and a whole lot of music business stuff that goes on above that (chalk that up to "luck").

I've played this guitar. Figures that the only guy I've found who makes 8 strings sound good would have made the only 8 string model I've found that sounds good.
