I think the music video for this song reveals a different depth to the song. It's hard for me to figure it out but either the sister that was in the red nightgown was raped by the older man and man's son didn't believe her, or the young man raped her and older man didn't believe her... thus making her protective of the other girl when the young man starts showing an interest in her. It's difficult to pick out the storyline here. But it's still a very powerful song.

Maybe she was raped by her ex boyfriend, but she's embarrassed and everyone heard about it and the new guy she's with wants to know the truth, but it may hurt him, because the person who raped her was his friend, but then she doesn't want to tell him, because she doesn't want to remember it. :( And in the video I think he hits one of her sisters :L I'm just guessing though :/ I love this song (:
