Some people go there claimin' that Hüsker started to sold themselves out since this album (FLIP YO' WIG) onwards. I simply don't get it. If they really got a more popish sound (that you can even listen to it on some earlier tracks) it doesn't imply that they gave up their asses to Warner Bros. or "the mainstream" means. The band totally were born to make history in rock music and culture. Never tried to get on the "rockstar" stage by their scandals or private life issues. If you are into these men, you can see they only released three videoclips and a very few amount of singles (I would have loved they had some more). If you ask me, they don't have any "bad era" at all. Since Everything falls apart to the Warehouse they really rocked the hell out and every album is almost as good as the other ones. Couldn't talk about "the best" (even when I like to death Zen Arcade... or Candy Apple... or Warehouse... ) Damn!. I love 'em all. HÜSKER DÜ FOREVA'!

The sad part is the 'early' version of husker du cared so little about 'hits' or money and yet I liked 99% of their songs on every record. Then starting on Flip Your Wig they started to sound and act like 'alternative' pop radio hit whores who contrived themselves to get a'hit". And yet it was at that point in time I started to like very little of their actual songs. I only like 1 or 2 songs off any record of theirs from Wig and later. And that was when they started "trying". Always this way :P

I'll agree and disagree. You sort of make a point, their early years were amazing, perf years, but I'm not going to fault a band for taking a different path. They always changed by each album and still made good material after New Day Rising. Sometimes a band gets tired of doing the same thing over & over. They never exactly hit it big time but they were still good & became more influential. Besides, the 60s-80s was the age of experimentation. This isn't Bad Religion's, "Into the Unknown" bad.

I want the band the way they once were and should have stayed. True to punk. . I don't approve of "growth" of artists because that is a silly sad contrived excuse for changing to suit others and to try and make money. Hence the term sellout. Or growing old and needing to leave before you get irrelevant. Husker DU is amazing BEFORE flipped wigs. But back in late 85 when this shit came out they were instantly a radio friendly derivative of rem (and their own material) pop puke band.
