Using your thumb can work really nicely combined with palm muting to get a really deep reggae vibe. But for normal playing you're making things hard for yourself. If you go to my website, find the START HERE banner on the home page and go there, you'll find some linked lessons. There's one on two finger technique....follow that and put in some time and you'll get there!

@o0TheHatKing0o Hey. That's a Steinberger Q4. It was an active bass that Steinberger put out in the early 90s. I actually went to buy a 'classic' Steinberger, but the shop had sold out and I had to settle for this....this is my working bass (because it doesn't weigh much - ski-ing shoulder injury). But it's pretty cool - and it has a Drop D 'lever' on the bridge which is great for Drop D tunes on a gig.
