Meade "Lux" Lewis was a great blues/jazz pianist and this is a fine effort from him. Enjoy!

It's interesting that this was American recorded but issued on Parlophone at first in 1936 in the UK and not in the US. It didn't get released on the American Decca until a few years later as a part of that album set. I always liked Meade's style. It was rougher - raw and not quite as commercial as Johnson and Ammons although I love them too. Back when I still played I tended to lean more toward Meade's style.

Hearing Mr. Lewis on a blue note record back in 1951 changed my life.

my dad had this one on a decca 78 with a blue label-bob crosby & the bobcats with bob zurke on piano-it was a salute to meade 'lux' lewis - the old 78's are gone except for one album of 12" v-discs & 'black & whites' & 'bg's original 'sing-sing-sing' i managed to salvage but this brings 'em back....THANKS

What a coinicidence. I am just right now in Cat's cradle where he mentions him. I guess I dont have to say that it made me come here ;)

The very base piano in the background is the basis for the piano in Bad Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce except for Croce slowed it down a bit. Just noticed this

its turning too slow, I think. My version is faster, and its sounds closer to classic blues keys. Idk for sure though.
