When you got that groove nailed you don't need anything else (including chord changes.)

Snuck onstage after he finished in the early 90s in Ormond Beach, FL and met him - he was cool about it! Had everything of his in HS in the 70s - an idol! RIP Herbie - you kicked ass!

WestSideOfJazzFusing Southern US R&B with New York Jazz, the album Memphis Underground earned its status as one of the iconic jazz releases of all time. With a core jazz cast of Roy Ayers, Larry Coryell and Sonny Sharrock, and of course headliner Herbie Mann, the album featured covers of Soul releases such as Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Comin", and "Chain of Fools" by Aretha Franklin, and was recorded in Chips Moman's American Studios in Memphis, Tenn. The sound was greater than the parts of Memphis Soul or NY Jazz and thus created an entirely new soundscape.
