Sunday nights, after a big dinner..we would all gather around the TV....Dad in his recliner and the kids on the plastic covered sofa.......and I would listen to this eerie sonic music and be transported away for an hour. How simple, times were back then....time is a cruel master!!!!! Thanks for the memories.....Banacek,,,Columbo,,,McCloud..(Mom's favorite) and McMillan and Wife.....I would love to have this as a ring tone!!

Never made me feel good inside when having to endure this theme before McCloud, as thought it pointless then, as now, achieved nothing, think it was LWT who introduced it, as recalled it never being used before.

Then the networks realised that they could make more money by eliminating the theme music and stuffing more advertising into the hour. Greed always wins...for awhile.

"Mystery Movie" Henry Mancini theme defined the type of cool sophisticated artistry that used to be that of NBC across the board. There was always something very different, very cool about NBC. NBC had its own magic mystique. CBS and abc, respectfully, were great in their own way, too, however, it was that NBC "thing" that made you feel everything in your life was going to work out, and you would be okay. Virtually five decades of great entertainers and HONESTY in news broadcast professionals with self-respect and ethics. It seems, when David Letterman left the airwaves (from NBC and CBS, respectfully) that unique style, ethics, just plain fun, and mystique departed as well from the television networks. It was like there wasn't any air to breath anymore. Everything was still and empty. Another cool magic-mystique of " be-all and end-all " was Pontiac Motor Division and MAGNAVOX Electronics. But, that's another story.

That theme song takes me back when I was young and innocent. All my family members were still living and many many famous people in the world were still living; naturally I took all of that for granted (inasmuch as it was back then that I couldn't have known any better). What little time that I have left is being poured out like water-- and I can't stop it! Relatively speaking, these are the last few minutes of my life! Aargh!

What is the instrument used for the melody here? Is it a theremin, or a synthesizer?

Well I know it might be a little strange. But the area in the video photo where the Lady is sitting in the boat is at the top of Mulholland Drive ( now Mulholland Parkway) over looking Downtown and the San Fernando Valley. A beautiful view of Los Angeles.

Always makes me think back on those great old episodes of McCloud, starring Dennis Weaver.
