A major thing I love about Hedwig is that in all the canon soundtracks: Movie, Musical, and the 1990s Off-Broadway each has a different vibe and almost, a different performance although that depends on the song. The Off-Broadway performance of Wicked Little Town is my most favorite as JCM provides the sort of vocals I can perfectly envision on a teen rock star like Tommy. However, it's like that version has a 'solid' feeling with more confidence as he sings the lyrics. But this version is different in that it feels softer, forgiving (or begging for forgiveness, which, Tommy is doing after all). Not that this is a bad thing at all, because it touches more of my heart-strings emotionally especially with the video. And, compared to JCM's Tommy: as he sings this one truly sounds like a boy who emerged from a rural 'Wicked Little Town.' As for NPH I've only heard the Reprise of Wicked Little Town once on Youtube, so I cannot say much on how he contrasts with this song.

This breaks my heart endlessly.Every time I try to give love a chance, I always end up left behind.The first time I saw this I just burst into tears and my friend was startled and couldn't understand why I was so deeply affected by this scene...How on earth can anyone not see how fucking heartbreaking this is?!

The use of another actor as Tommy in the movie bothers me. In the play (I just saw NPH's version, phenomenal), the song is sung by him/hedwig. So it seems less likely that it's just Hedwig finding her "other self," in the movie. Also,in the movie, the character of Tommy walks away so it seems like Hedwig was alone. The play end reads much happier.
