All truly creative work takes time to be recognized. I think everyone would agree that the Me? album is a departure from most of Kpop. Yenny just doesn’t seem to fit any mold in either Western or Asian pop music. The music has a soulful folk quality underneath a slick pop sound. Truth, Ain’t Nobody, and Nothing Lasts Forever express complicated adult emotions. Yenny’s voice has depth and color and her performance is so powerful it is almost cathartic. Iron Girl is both slick and folksy with a feminist message whose time has come in Korea. Bond is an homage to Henry Mancini, the king of killer cool. Wherever Together and Peter Pan are refreshingly uplifting and hope inspiring. In all, the album is a brilliant multifaceted gem reflecting the many sides of Yenny as the most promising up-and-coming artist in the Asian music scene.
