I understand that gypsy jazz is supposed to be like that but I just can't stand the chunky quarter note rhythms for the comping, it's so distracting. Haha

This just blew my mind thinking about, its probably a basic improv concept for dealing with modulations by theory rather than ear but it makes perfect sense. So you can play C major over all of this but it would help to be able to follow along the modulations (E7, A7, Gm6, Fm, D7). So instead of looking at the chord type (i.e. that's E7, play E mixolydian, A7 = A mixolydian etc.. this does not work too well) look at the NOTE and think about what it would regularly be in modal terms! An E would normally be an Em in C major and would be the III degree, where the phrygian minor starts. BUT E7 has a major third! SO try a phrygian scale with a major third instead of minor but maintain the b2 and b6 (the b2 to the maj3rd is a step and a half interval jump and that E7 with the b2 is a E7b9, a chord WITH a dim7 in it! The near pinnacle of harmonic badassery.). A7 would be aeolian with a major third and Gm6 is G, the IV ,(Mixolydian) with a minor 3rd. Fm is lydian with a minor third. Although these are not proper modes they maintain the integrity of the C scale while including the movement of the modulation. Hope this is helpful as a theme to stick to and experiment with! Its really a great exercise of how well you know your basic 7 note scale all over the fretboard and how well you can shift your understanding of the intervals and modes. AND OF COURSE GET SURREAL WITH CHROMATICS AND BENDS.

当方、アドリブ初心者。もう70近いけどこのバッキングで一日中楽しんでます。下手でも自分で音を出すのは楽しいです。ある程度の形になったらマッシュレコードで遊ぼうと思ってます。

can it be because of my speakers that i almost don't hear a harmonic quality in the guitar? it al sounds muffled and almost like there are no chords played... i have a musically trained ear , so i was just wondering if my speakers are messed up or that i'm not the only one that doesn't hear much of the changes

Well - that's interesting, thanks for elaborating (although I'd long forgotten about this) =) but, by the way, it seems you missed G flat going backwards in your original comment. Se?

Both flats and sharps are necessary to clearly understand the functional behavior of notes. For instance, if we are in C major and the note C#/Db is behaving in a way where it resolves UP to D, we want to think of it as "di". Eventually, mapping this note behavior to the syllable "di" will help us to hear further into the future because when we sing or play "di" we expect to hear "re" next. It is also necessary to have both ra (Db) and di (C#) for harmonic reasons.

Gm6 = Em7b5. they're the same chord (G, E, Bb, D). so here, it is the ii chord in a ii-V to Dm (Em7b5 - A7 - Dm). so play what u'd play over a ii-V in Dm. u cud play MANY things, but as jumping off point, try D natural minor (aeolian) ideas over it. & D harm minor ideas wud work. the best thing to do is take time to find notes tht sound good to you over the Gm6, figure out what scale or arp they're from, and practice phrasing w/that scale over the Gm6 until it feels good/sounds right to u.
