The opening chord is a Fmaj7add G (1st string). It's that simple....

For the Applesauce Project...John did not play a Dsus4, period...Randy Bachman is 100% wrong on that point. All of the takes, w/ false starts, are available in excellent quality on bootlegs. John played the Fadd9 as described in this video (see the Paris concert footage); furthermore, George played the identical form of this Fadd9 as well (with the F in the bass as can be seen in the Shea Stadium film just before the song starts). Paul played a D in the bass (this is demonstrated again & again during the recording sessions).

The Applesauce Project

On the opening chord, George is playing the F chord with a G on top, while John's playing a Dsus4. Otherwise, spot on, gents.

After watching all these worthless youtube "lesson" videos, the lesson is that the Beatles, especially George and Ringo, were much better musicians than a lot of people give them credit for.

Put your finger on the 3rd fret of the high E string and the other finger on the 1st fret of the B string and leave all the other ones open and just hit all the strings at once, it sounds exactly like the record. What they were trying to do was make the guitar sound like it was being dropped which they did many times before by accident

Solo absolutely incorrectly. Most people play "C-D-F" 4x and "C-D-F-D-C-B-G". In original record George Martin and George Harrison used pentatonic blues scale, that last position is "C-D-F-C#-C-B-G". I have never listen correct play except The Beatles record. You have to honestly say that it is very difficult to solo. No one can play it clean and correct.
