The GD weren't generally considered a country rock band, but they regularly covered country standards in performances. This one, Mama Tried, was written by Merle Haggard.

Since this is the 45th anniversary of Woodstock, I thought a song from the setlist from that night would be appropriate. At the actual festival, the Dead had terrible trouble with the wiring and the storms, so who knows if this song was performed or not? In any case here is Mama Tried.

The Good News

It is common for the Catholic Church to claim that when a person dies they must receive last rites to guarantee heaven. Most religions also believe that if a person is bad they go to hell where they will be tormented forever or heaven if their good. But are these teachings biblical? Let’s take a look at what the “Revised Standard Version” a Catholic edition says: *1. Ecclesiastes 9:5* says “For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward; but the memory of them is lost.” *2. Ecclesiastes 9:6* says “Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and they have no more for ever any share in all that is done under the sun.”*3. Psalm 115:17* says “The dead do not praise the Lord, nor do any that go down into silence.”According to these three Scriptures it teaches us the status of the dead. According to the book of Ecclesiastes states that all emotions and knowledge ceases to exist, the same qualities needed to be in heaven or in hell in order to feel the effect of such places. Psalms also made it clear the status of the dead that they do not praise the Lord, if the dead go to heaven as angels; should we conclude that they will not praise the Lord? It’s obvious that such lessons taught by most religions about heaven and hell are not true. Of course this does not mean that there is no hope for the dead since Jesus taught us that there will be a resurrection for all those that have passed away. According to *John **5:28**, 29* says *“Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life…”* Take note of a detail in this verse that John mentioned. He said “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” If a person is in heaven or hell; then should we conclude that they will be transferred from heaven or hell to come out from the tombs and back to life here on earth? It’s kind of confusing; right? In a few occasions the Bible described the dead as sleeping and Jesus said the same thing about his best friend, Lazarus when he died. (Matthew 9:24; Mark 5:39; Luke 8:52; John 11:11-14) Keep in mind that Lazarus had been dead for four days and Jesus’ resurrected him and brought him back to life here on earth. (John 41-44) Take note of another detail; if heavenly life is the main goal for all who die; Lazarus known as Jesus’ best friend would have met the criteria for heavenly life being that he was a righteous man; then why would Jesus resurrect Lazarus and bring him back to earth if he was in heaven? Man has always been fascinated with life after death; would it not be logical to think that the Bible writers would have recorded this information if there would be life after death? Sincerely,The Good News
