Grand Funk Railroad - Into The Sun performed live @ Madison Square Garden 12/23/72. The special Christmas show that was recorded for the 'In Concert' series. Yes, this is the real deal, the Grand Funk Railroad we all love with Mark Farner on lead vocals, guitar, & keyboard. This video captures some of the magic that was GFRxR. Rising, setting, been trying to get into the sun, yeah.

Wanting, getting, gonna get more, baby, when Im done.

All my life I had been waiting, then you turn me on.

Now therell be no hesitating, Im getting into the sun.

Growing, knowing, you learn more everyday, yeah.

Needing, succeeding, sun, dont go away.

Things are changing for the better, now Im not afraid.

Ill be writing you a letter, cause I just got paid.

From "kiddie pop music" to HARD CORE ROCK-N-ROLL in 1 day!! Mother was so mad after the stereo speakers were destroyed inside 2 weeks...sad but true.

Saw them a few months before this concert at Hyde Park in London with Humble Pie and Heads, Hands and Feet. Great show.

Can you imagine the hardcore fan's reaction when they released crap like the Locomotion and Bad Time, after growing up with this? Ouch!

I am truly disappointed if Grand Funk Railroad has not made it in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And, if not, I would love to know why the hell NOT?!

I'm a 40 year guitar veteran, won the NC battle of the band's when I was 16 playing this song, the energy coming off the stage during this performance is off the scale! Hope to meet Mark Farner on the road one day !

PS. Make sure you check out the Mark Adams one. It's totally live. The other download is a studio/live mix.

Agreed! Chuck was awesome. Check out here on YouTube, the live performance of Easy To Be Hard. He nails it perfectly. What a professional!

Yes. Especially Steve Marriot. He was vastly overlooked by the American audiences, due to the limited exposure of the Small Faces in the states, who were horribly mismanaged. Steve was a mighty force to be reckoned with. And in such a small frame. His talents went beyond singing. He was also very good on guitar, drums and was a childhood actor, who once played the Artful Dodger, in the play Oliver, in London. Too much talent, like a white Sammy Davis Jr.

I saw GFR at Cabo Hall in Detroit in 1971. I was 16 and I went with my brother who was 23 at the time. It was my first concert ever! One of the most fantastic experiences of my life! And believe me folks, I knew I was looking at greatness on that stage! And they are! Got Funk?

When I bought Mark Don & Mel and saw them live at 15, my world turned upside down. Much better singers, guitar players and song writers are out there, but somehow, when GFR got up on stage, they became more than the sum of their parts. Such was their energy and animal magnetism. My little hippy girlfriend would just about orgasm over "Inside Looking Out".

GFR was my first concert. It was 8 days before this in Springfield, MA. We saw them once more in Springfield two years later.
