Lifelong Atlanta area resident, never heard of the Atlanta International Pop Festival. Wow. Wish we still had it. But the Midtown Music Festival has been going on for years, which is effectively the successor. How cool that Grand Funk got its first big break in Atlanta.

GFR was good but no way could top Zeppelin, especially back then, not sure why Peter Grant would be afraid.

@ WV591 Funk killed Zeppelin when it came to stage performance. If it wasn't for the blues musicians, Zeppelin wouldn't have had any songs to steal from.

The real reason GFR is not in the hall of BS and will probably never get in is because of Farner's political views. Being a 9-11 truther who has named the entire U.S. mainstream media honchos and newscasters as culprits who should be imprisoned for lying to billions, naming the bankster usurers and fractional reserve counterfeiting scum for what they are and being an American Free Press subscriber for over 15 years and then rubbing it in by recording a song by Paul Topete of Freedompalooza is tantamount to a gigantic middle finger in the face of the powers-that-be, the same asswipes who determine who gets that stupid 'oscar' every year or give a Nobel Peace prize to the worst warmongering president in U.S. history since FDR.

Funk was ok but not in the same league as Led Zep. not even close as far as talent.just lucky to have been around in the 60's when getting gigs was as ez as hell.these guys couldn't even in a dream come close to a song like a stairway to heaven if thier life depended on it. wasnt for Vietnam war they'd have nothing to sing about.

Michael Moore was a poor choice to have anything to do with this.

Any body from this area (Michigan/Midwest) knows the ethos at that time was live, in your face performance which is what Grand Funk did. You had to prove yourself on stage. The records were secondary. Led Zeppelin couldn't compete in that market at that time. When the MC5 said "are you ready to testity?" they were talking about an on stage rock n roll testimonial. As they say later in the song "Let me up on the stand. And let me kick out the jams."

Sorry Furner, Christianity needs to be destroyed. Your part-indian and I have the right to use guns to kill the weak and purify society by means of forced abortions, eugenics and other biological means. My ancestors go back to the Aryan tribes that invaded and took Europe as their own. We are pure. We are lead by the traditions of the rigveda. If you don't like it, deal with it.

I kind of doubt Page did not know of Grant's decisions. The only member of that band that I think might not participate in such a thing was Jones, but he didn't participate in much it seems other than recording/performing and that's it. Everything else he stayed away from. I would not be surprised if Jimmy Page/Peter Grant knew of eachother's every decision, or at least most of them concerning the band. Zeppelin was their baby. Plant/Bonham were virtual unknowns and newbies on the scene.

After watching clips of Song Remains the Same (and remembering it), and then catching the 1974 concert performances of GFR, there was no doubt in my mind. GFR were the tighter, more energetic, kick ass band. It was just evident everywhere. The claims in this that they blew Led Zeppelin away I believe. They were blowing them away in 1974 (barring John Paul Jones, he's pretty faultless) - history gets told by the victors. The acclaim Zeppelin gets tells you who pulled the plug.

Although I do think zeppelin had a more consistent discography, nobody touched GFR in live performances. GFR sounded solid in every live performance i heard while lz sounded like shit in many of their own.

This is a great documentary about a band which exploded on the scene and then they throw that moron, Michael Moore with his lousy, worthless opinion.

Great doc if you pull the mike more bits.

Im sure Michael Jackson is ahead of Grand Funk in record sales as well. Record sales dont mean too much. Led Zeppelin were overrated and ripoff artists.

I like Led Zep's music to bits but this was a lame incident -_-

That was Peter Grant. The band had nothing to do with the decision to pull the plug.

GFR>>>>>>Zeppelin. Jimmy Page is a musical thief that has stolen songs from other artists verbatim. Just ask Roy Harper.

It was Led Zeppelin's manager. The members of Led Zeppelin may not have even known anything about it. There are many stories floating around out there about Peter Grant's "protective instincts".
