Quite brutal music, this is. Switch off now if you don't want a heart attack.

Gorguts are a technical death metal band from Quebec City, Canada.

Gorguts were formed in 1989 by Luc Lemay (vocals and guitar), Sylvain Marcoux (guitar), Éric Giguère (bass) and Stephane Provencher (drums). They released their first demo, ...And Then Comes Lividity, in 1990 which led them to be signed to Roadrunner Records. Their first album, Considered Dead, featured guest appearances by James Murphy (a guitar solo on "Inoculated Life") and Chris Barnes (backing vocals on "Bodily Corrupted," "Rottenatomy," and "Hematological Allergy").

Lemay, the only remaining original member, returned in 1998 on Olympic Records with a new line-up consisting of Steeve Hurdle (guitar); Steve Cloutier (bass); and Patrick Robert (drums). This lineup released the album Obscura, which explored progressive and avant-garde territory. Obscura is a complex album with multi-layered dissonant harmonies and the lengths of the individual riffs can make their patterns difficult to pick out on a first listen. Gorguts' approach to harmony, rhythm and structure made Obscura an important technical death metal album.

LYRICS:

Flesh the feeble flesh confines the pain and soul

Vault in which, the earthly way, i bear

Earthly Love my denial

Tears as a gift upon my mirror

Bright...the pureness of the unperpetual

The meaningless heat of flesh, I ignore

Reflection of betrayal

Fear as a gift, a creeping splendor

Flows of ecstasies within the succubus

The carnal healings of the soul

Earthly form of illusion

Flesh, my desires a living radiance

Must of ecstasies the mankind's incubus

The carnal addictions of the soul

Concrete form of sorrow

Impure malignant indignation

In my dreams, earthly love seems so bright

I my nights, earthly love I deny

Earthly love... carnal bliss

Which I'll have inside of me until my end.

Flesh the feeble flesh confines the pain and soul

Vault in which, the earthly way, I bear

Bright... the pureness of the unperpetual

The meaningless heat of flesh, I ignore

Reflection of betrayal

Fear as a gift, a creeping splendor

Earthly love... carnal bliss

Which I'll have inside of me 'till my end.

(I know it's not the right lyrics... I'll update it when I find out the lyrics.)

It takes work, you don't just listen to this once and understand everything that is going on.Listen and come back after a week. When you do get this album it's one of the better moments in metal.

This is my very first time listening to Gorguts. Nowhere near noise. How I look at so far, it's all the complex ideas in the world and put together in one album. I can clearly hear structure.

"not in harmony or keeping with the surroundings or other aspects of something." Sounds exactly like this song. Dissonance throughout. 2:20 cellos that sound vaguely reminiscent of Hungarian Gypsy violin with squealing guitars spazzing over it. I've given Gorguts more than several listens, to say the least.

I'm 99% certain that people who call it incongruous noise are using hyperbole.

But it's not incongruous noise at all. Give it several more listens, I guess.

Regardless of musical taste, if you still think it's incongruous noise then you are either not listening or are stupid. You don't have to like it, but it's literally not incongruous noise.

and it was actually ready for release by 1994.

Are you kidding? This is entirely incongruous noise. That's what makes them so uniquely amazing.

It's amazing to me that this came out in 1998. Really ahead of its time. Gorguts is awesome.

Radicality

Let him stroke his ego. I hate when fans of a non-mainstream genre do it to make themselves feel superior, but it can't be helped.

This is one of my favorite albums, but here you're really just saying that people who have different musical tastes than you are idiots. You can't expect non-metal fans to not hear it as noise, since to the uninitiated it is pretty much random, chaotic noise.
