I have this version on a 1969 vinly LP called 'Past Times Behind' or it may have been 1970....I'd have to check. Fabulous song....they were expert songwriters at a very early age.

Nice to hear the boys sing without the overproduction of their later recordings. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Bo Donaldson also cover this song? I could have sworn I saw Donaldson and his Heywoods perform this on Bandstand one Saturday morning. Of course, the Heywoods' version WAS overproduced!

@mv808fdm .. The CD I have this on is called The Philadelphia Years, which was basically a bunch of early recordings that Hall & Oates did in the early 70's ... The version that's on Whole Oats is similar, just a bit "cleaned up" ..

@piratejim thanks man, i remember searching everywhere years ago for a CD with this song and found one with this version.. it's the only one i heard for years, and the most common version used.. i never realized that the whole oats version was different.. i uploaded that version but WMG blocked it -_- oh well

.. this is actually Hall & Oates' demo of this song, recorded in 1971 ... they ended up re-recording it for their debut album, Whole Oats, in 1972 ...
