I've always LOVED this song. Always. Then Jimmy Fallon did a spoof of the video for this song. Then I realized what was missing: The black back-up singers. The black up singers. You rarely rarely rarely ever see them in any of the music videos or live performances. But when their presence isn't there, it's painfully obvious. This performance is no exception, which must be why I keep look for a 'good' live performance (not pre-recorded voice over parts), that is to say that can invoke the same feeling as the recorded version. The richness and depth just doesn't seem to be there. Generally, richness and depth shouldn't be as difficult with LIVE music , But I guess it will be if the key elements are there. Only after watching the Jimmy Fallon show that I realize that what I really liked most about the song was the ending — the last 30 seconds of the song. Can't believe it's taken me all these years to realize that.

Does anybody else notice the same thing I do. John Mayer was 13 years old at the time this was a huge hit. Being as good as he is I can't help but think he was greatly influenced by this group and thier sound.
