Another Glen Campbell & Jim Webb corroboration.( Jim Webb was in town a few weeks ago; since he was known as a songwriter and not a singer, I did not go )

Vietnam era song but it would hold the same meanings for other US soldiers before and after the late 1960's when this song was released.

My Mother watched my Father board an army vessel to take his army group to Germany right at the end of WWII where Dad spent years working to help Germany be restored. Mother still speaks of seeing him leaving shore in a huge ship, not knowing when or if she'd see him again. This song will always be playing with my heart strings.

I just read in "The Wrecking Crew" book about how Glen borrowed Carol Kaye's Danelectro bass to play the guitar solo in the bridge that Jimmy Webb had never quite finished. But this live performance is spot on, testimony to an incredible talent and a brilliant songwriter. I still love hearing that bass riff every time!

Glen had it all; looks, talent. Very tragic what is happening to him right now.

This song came out during my tour, I don't remember it being played on AFR (mostly R&R, R&B stuff.) But was playing everywhere when I got home, cried like a baby. At the time you don't consider it, but afterwards when u make it & remember the buddies who didn't it all comes back. "I am so afraid of dying"

Thanks for posting this. Remember it as a kid and always admired Glen. My dad was in Vietnam, so was my uncle, and I thought of them when I was little & heard Glen sing it. Thanks again.

Does anyone ever wonder why they don't have variety shows anymore? It would be great to see t.v. showcase real musicians again.
