@RWillemM I don't think I've explained the ditty very well - it's a poem from the record itself, sung to the listener. "Just below the hole in me" is the record talking about the hole in its centre, where the record player spindle went through it. No idea if I've misheard "C with two capital Ys" - it has no known relevance in the English language. Gilbert uses eccentric english ("the title of which you'll see") to stretch out the information he is giving us, so it doesn't always make sense :)

@arthurinuk What is C with two capital Y's?? Must be something typically British (or Ray's)? Furthermore: I always understood the last line as "Just below the holy me". I think this is typically a Gilbert lyric; more meanings/possibilities than just one... Love it!!

@GreenerHill Last week I bought the toast-LP of Denny Ward in the YMCA-shop in Ashford (UK), holding this beautiful song!! It only cost me 49p. On it are also songs written by Leo Muller. Who is that??!! The songs are Gilbert O'Sullivan-type of songs...

Always assumed this was an A-side! It was covered on the Denny Ward Plays a Toast to GO'S album, and is a great song. Yes, I'd call it beautiful too! :)

Me again - driving home tonight I just realised I remember the comic introduction to this song - "Now that you've turned me over, Make way for a little surprise, For I'm not really a b-side, I'm a C with two capital Ys And the name of this song, incidentally Is the title of which you'll see They've printed in capital letters Just below the hole in me." The mind's a strange place.

This was the b-side to No Matter How I Try. We had it as a 7" single. As a child I always found this track haunting and sad, and irresistible.
