A little teaser for Gilbert`s forthcoming album GILBERTVILLE coming early in 2011 featuring excerpts from a recent interview . The album was recorded in Nashville and London and includes the following tracks -

GILBERT O'SULLIVAN Gilbertville Hypertension (2011)
Gilbert O'Sullivan has been enjoying hit singles and albums since the 70's onwards and, along with Leo Sayer, vied for the best Afro style hair! Fast foward to 2011 and he's releasing his new album on a label that co-incidently also features Leo Sayer, along with Chris de Burgh and Nazareth amongst others.
Now I liked a few of his 70's hits but had never listened to one of his albums in full and judging by this new release I should do ASAP. It is a mix of fun songs like 'The Allergy Song' (you can see where Divine Comedy maybe borrowed a few ideas from) and 'Where Would We Be (Without Tea)'.
Then there are serious topics like terrorism on 'All They Wanted To Say', a very moving song and 'Talking Of Murder'. The latter is a big production number, one you could imagine coming from a West End musical although the subject matter pulls no punches. Very enjoyable use of harmony vocals on this one.
'Could Have Made It With You' sneaks in a bit of hard rock - I kid you not - although the Harry Hill poetry interlude is very bizarre. Special mention to the bonus track 'School Meals', again a great piece of musical fun.
An unexpected delight and deserves to put him back on the map outside of his loyal fanbase.

the song "all they wanted to say" is worthy of a place in the charts because it is such a well written and clever song. Clever because as Gilbert says it shows a different angle to what happened on that fateful day, when all they wanted to say was"i love you". Whether the album is successful in terms of sales or airplay is doubtful because of gilbert's status in the music business. Avid fans know his genius and creativity. Others wrot ehim off years ago for various reasons. shame on them.14 years назад

@potatoepeter1 Yes - Chris Rea - another good artist , made some great records - `Josephine ` and many more . Chris has also played on Gilberts records back in 1980 . This producer should work well with Gilbert . Cheers Peter !14 years назад

@StormbreakerVideo PART TWO - The album EVERY SONG HAS ITS PLAY was mostly orchestral in the style of a west-end musical . The album SINGER SOWING MACHINE from 1997 was a real change in style - some heavy rock and techno sounding material . Many fans were shocked at some of the changes ! So Ray doesn`t stand still - he`s constantly looking for a new angle to present his work . Listen to the track - IN BED BY TEN and you`ll hear a different Gilbert . @StormbreakerVideo The tracks on this album are the closest he`s come te re-creating the seventies sound for quite a few years. There`s usually a least one track per album that recalls the sound that made him famous - he deliberately does this for his long standing fans . But he tries different productions on each album - The last one - A SCRUFF AT HEART ` featured no electric instruments just mostley a loud piano ! Then there was PIANO FOREPLAY which was almost a jazz album . - PART ONE !14 years назад

@212wakka Yes you are so right - if this album was given a good critical review it could open up all the doors for Ray again. He has been producing brilliant albums for years that have been largely ignored by the music press etc. Good old Radio 2 have usually played a small part in playing his newer stuff but he needs much more promotion generally . ` All they wanted to say ` could be a great success if enough people hear it . Videos too play a big part these days so that would help. We`ll see !14 years назад

@doho121 Thanks Anthony - I know Gilbert`s loyal fans are well aware of this album but this for the benefit of all those casual Youtube viewers who still think Gilbert isn`t around anymore ! And yes promotion will be the key to the albums success so I hope the new record label do a good job. Youtube is a powerful media itself now - that`s why we should make the most of it to spread the word !14 years назад

@gosfanusa Yeah Joe it must be frustrating for you Americans having to get import cd`s. I thought this album had great potential in America - the Nahville connection and the great 9/11 song `All they wanted to say ` . This could have been the album to re-establish him in the States - particularly if he`d done some high profile tv shows over there to promote it. He must be so frustrated with the delay - he was performing some of these songs on stage in 2009 ! Maybe iTunes could be the answer !14 years назад

Thanks Mo! I'm just extremely pissed that by the time the CD is released it will be old news! The album was finished and the tracks were mixed in February. Now they are sitting in a can gathering dust! Since the cd won't have a release in the US, the fans will have to jump through hoops to buy it. iTunes could have been the answer!14 years назад
