I saw it in the fall of '76. Yvonne Eliman was in it (another woman had been cast as Mary M., but Elliman became available, perhaps just for a few shows, at the last moment) as well as Carl Anderson. In my program, a young Eric Stoltz is listed as one of the children. (Decades later, director Gary Goddard explained to me that Stoltz sat on Neeley's lap during part of Hosanna.) I still remember the set (it was the only time I ever saw JCS performed outdoors) and various parts like Herod (the performer added some jokes of his own, changing the lines a little for comedic effect). I don't believe there was any implication of resurrection at the end (as in the movie). I recall noticing that and hearing others in the audience making the same observation.

Endlessly performing Jesus! He is an astonishing person and singer. This version is too fast and the orchestra is poor. But Ted is ok as usual. I had the chance to meet him at Rome in april . Thank you for sharing.

The tempo is faster on this version than most other versions I've heard; and the orchestra doesn't sound great. But Ted delivers this performance like a total professional. Was in great voice back then, too.

We need people in who can sing like that in the mainstream... I mean seriously how can something like that amazing voice not be the norm for singers? Or at least an aspect of the norm.

You know? Saw him starring in JCS in 2010 (??) or so, end of the last tour, in north San Diego. In his 60's, he STILL nailed every single note, seemingly without trying much, but with the same intensity of the movie, etc. He then stood and chatted with us post show after everyone else had gone for near two hours. The man insanely rocks, literally and metaphorically, plus? He gives the best, and I mean BEST hugs of all time. :)
