You should hang your head in shame Raphael Ravenscroft, for claiming credit for something you didn't do. He had more talent in his little finger than you will ever possess. You just happened to be the lucky bloke that got the phone call because the booked sax players lip had gone. And you earned a fortune in future sessions off the back of it, as your rates went from £27.50 to £5,000 a session. You are, Mr Ravenscroft.......................a first class wanker, and a liar.

Gerry Rafferty never cared about fame or the celebrity life style, all he ever wanted was respect for his talent and songs. He also never trusted the music industry and look what they're doing now. Most of the artists today are completely manufactured, they might as well just stepped off a fucking conveyor belt. In 40 years time people won't even remember Justin Bieber, One Direction or Miley Cyrus, their music is bland and forgettable. All the proper bands played in bars and clubs for years trying to clinch a record deal, they don't go on some crappy talent show get it handed to them on a silver platter!9 years назад

Impossible to verify if Ravencroft's claim that he only go 27 pounds for playing that hauntingly good sax solo are difficult to verify. But even if Gerry Rafferty - an artist I admire very much as a musician - wrote every note of it, as he claimed, I think he could have give a nice bonus after the Baker Street sales figures went through the roof. I might be mistaken, but my guess is someone like David Gilmour would have done that ?10 years назад

To accuse Raf of lying is absurd. Anyone with a decent set of ears will hear that what was on the demo is NOT exactly the same as what ended up on the record, but the germ of an idea that Raf took and ran with. Chances are he never heard the demo, but had it roughly sung or played to at the session. He then ran with the idea. Also, the session was 35-odd years ago, so it's not surprising that he can't remember exactly what happened.10 years назад

It's fascinating that Billy Connelly considered Gerry a musician but didn't fancy himself one. I'm sure there's a deeper, better definition of a musician that old-school players embrace, as compared with folks today who, if they're able to strum out the riff for Smoke On The Water label themselves "musician" and are confused that not everyone else sees them as such.11 years назад
