George Jones also covered 'Sweet Thang'. He recorded it on Nov. 28. 1966. It came out on his 'Walk Through This World With Me' New Original Hits on Musicor Records. I wander why he didn't record it as a duet with Melba Montgomery. He actually went back to the studio the next 2 days (Nov. 29 & 30) to record 7 duets with Melba for their 'Party Pickin'' Album for Musicor Records. Shame they didn't saw that this could have been a great duet hit!

Loretta and Ernest covered "Sweet Thang", in 1967, a year after it was a hit for Nat Stuckey, in 1966. He had a great recording, but I always thought it was better as a male-female duet. Mel Tillis also covered it, with a little female harmony on the chorus (Connie Smith I think), but not as a duet with her.. Nat wrote "Pop-A-Top" (Jim Ed Brown) in 1967, and co-wrote "Waitin' In Your Welfare Line" (Buck Owens). Nat died in 1988, and was from Atlanta, Texas.
