This is one of Phil Spector's first hits. He apparently spent the previously unheard of sum of $14,000 to record this.

First time Carol heard young Gene Pitney sing her sublime composition... the girl-genius... must have creamed her unmentionables. I did.

PJ...Tonight on Doo Wop Stop, I heard a version of this that was either an alternate take that didn't work out as well or an exact copy done by a similar (not as good) singer. Do you know anything about this. I was listening to this when it was new and never heard another version until now. Thanks.

The Halos also backed up Curtis Lee on "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" another early Phil Spector Production (before the "Wall Of Sound"). The Halos' hit was "Nag" on 7 Arts which charted in BB at #25 in 8/61. POWERMUSIC

Gene Pitney had a DooWop group in the 50's, could anyone share what the name of that group was? TIA. This guy was an incredible talent. Song writer, singer, performer. Much missed-left too soon. Lucca

It appears that "I Wanna Love My Life Away" (with that great multi-track vocal) charted at #39 in Jan. 1960. This was from July of the same year and charted at #42 although both made it to #1 in the Detroit area.

Good question. I'd have to pull up a discography. I'm unsure of which release came up before this

Was this the follow-up to "I Wanna Love My Life Away"?

See if you can hunt down the Relic CD The Unknown 1950s Groups-The Hartford Sound at least I think that's the correct title. This guy John Rhys recorded these different groups in Central Connecticut and put them on acetates in stereo. He tried to get labels to record them but failed. Pitney was the only one who made it. Rhys put out four songs with a local group backing him up in accapella.
