Gene Pitney singing two songs by two of the greatest songwriting teams of all time Bacharach-David (24 Hours From Tulsa) and Weil-Mann (Angelica, whose most celebrated version is Scott Walker's but in my appreciation Pitney's rivals it.

@Tom Hopkins it's not tasteless so much as wrong. A flight to Tulsa, OK for Cardiff Wales is much less then 24 hours. If you walked, ran or skipped it would be far more then 24 hours. If you take a boat and then a car or train it would still be more than 24 hours. So yeah, if you wanted to make a joke you should have gone down the heart route.

we were fortunate enough to see him in concert shortly before his passing - a wonderful performer!

Slightly tasteless fact: The Welsh hotel room where Pitney died of heart failure in 2006 was about 24 hours' travel time from Tulsa.

...to tashyboy...what an ignorant person you are.allow me to enlighten you a little.GENE wrote million sellers for other artists..his first hit record-he wrote and played guitar-drums and piano on....at the age of 22 he was the first pop singer to perform at the academy awards...he was the highest ranked non italian artist to sing at the san remo song festival in italy...in 1966 GENE was voted best singer in the world..recorded in four languages..did pop-rock-folk and country..plus plus plus...

I agree with people saying gene is a great singer. But to say he id better than orbison is laughable, how many no.1 records did he have ? I rest my case. A cabaret performer for the best part of his career !

Saw him in Peterborough back in the 80's. I worked at the Crest Motel on the A1 in those days and had the pleasure of cleaning his motel room! He asked me where the hills of Leicestershire were. He called me 'mam' lovely guy. I was so very upset when I heard he had died. RIP dear Gene, you were with me from the early 60's bless you. xx
