In 1945 Japan was already defeated and ready to surrender. They were starving, lacking resources like oil and ammo and didn´t have even an army fleet since Okinawa battle. Douglas McArthur himself recognized the bombing was unnecessary. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just war crimes perpetrated for strategic reasons related to USA geopolitical positioning in post war world. American goverment didn´t give a damn shit about its soldiers (ask any Iwo Jima veteran), it was just politics.
