"From A Deadbeat To An Old Greaser" was released in the spring of 1976 on Jethro Tull's ninth studio album, Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young To Die!.

***Warning: As I'm feeling even more nostalgic than usual for some of the great music we grew up with in the 70's, an even more rambling ramble than usual starts here! :-)***

This is one of those albums that I always relate to listening to the 8-track of frequently during a period of my youth when I had one of my first vehicles (an old mail delivery jeep)....this album, George Harrison's Extra Texture, Rod Stewart's Tonight's The Night, Bob Dylan's Desire, Eric Clapton's No Reason To Cry, Neil Diamond's Beautiful Noise, Alvin Lee's Rocket Fuel (man, that one was obscure even then!), Gordon Lightfoot's Summertime Dream and Black Sabbath's Technical Ecstasy are strongly connected to this little jeep and a very rainy year, but other biggies from '76...strange how my memory associates certain albums to the place they made the most impact....Destroyer, Jailbreak, Frampton Comes Alive, Sad Wings, Leftoverture, I mostly associate playing in a pickup truck I got right after the jeep....wow! it was an orange Ford with some really cool surfing decals on the doors and a tropical window reflecting decal that took up the entire back window....that truck ROCKED (even when I rolled it into a little creek, four of us crammed in the cab....Alice Cooper's Goes To Hell in the deck as we went underwater (My first Alice Cooper video very soon!!!)..and some others BOC's Agents Of Fortune, Steve Miller's Fly Like An Eagle, and UFO's No Heavy Petting in a wicked Plymouth Fury III I had between the two...and others from that year Bob Seger's Night Moves, Al Stewart's Year Of The Cat, ELO's A New World Record, Genesis's Wind And Wuthering and most other things from that year,I recall my room and turntable.....a couple of biggies Boston's debut, Rush's 2112, and Aerosmith's Rocks I associate with my friends little car....man, there was so much time for music back in those days....and there was so much GREAT music to fill the time! Great cars and great music.....what do they got now? Music? Flavor of the week. Cars? OMG.....I can't even name one!....there is the one that used to have the cool video of the hamsters dancing, but can't think of the name....anyway, that car would have been decidedly UNCOOL back in the day!!! ;-)

Whatever, this video was another that I began years ago....it's not the video I started and planned to make which was mostly a black and white beat generation affair, but when I finally found the perfect video footage to add in, I decided it would be better in a longer video so I chopped it all out and just repeated the color effects that I'd made...kinda cheated and just repeated some transitions from my last video (I try not to repeat the same effects in videos that are next to each other...but it happens! LOL!). Wow...it's been a long time since I did some Tull up in here!? Gotta get a few more out of the pipe into the now! ;-)

I've always loved the lyrics to this track, and Ian's double tracked vocal. This album was not very well received when it was released...

(***start Wiki) Rolling Stone complained about the "muddled story" of the album, saying that "Ian Anderson should stick to music, because he most definitely is not a storyteller." The same review praised Anderson's skill at musical composition, and the guitar solos of Martin Barre.(***end Wiki)

...but it has always seemed an underrated, unique and beautiful record. It was the first Jethro Tull album I ever bought on release date (first on that 8-track, and a couple of weeks later on LP) and though back then it was hard not to compare it to Minstrel In The Gallery, Thick As A Brick, or Aqualung (and find it "minor" in comparison) today it sounds just like classic Tull! (Funny how time can elevate once non-worthy albums right into the thick of an artists "classic" sounding records?)
