HORN MAESTRO

+MarkTaylor So I've been playin horn for about 7 years (middle School/High school) and I want to start playing trumpet. Would it mess up my horn embouchure if I add trumpet to my practice sessions? As in practice an hour of trumpet then an hour of horn? Thanks

I have heard that the french horn is a very complicated instruments to understand regarding its overtone structure, what's possible to play and what isn't. What is your opinion on that? I mean you are really, really great at the french horn. Well done. Can you tell me, why the french horn is not part of the big band or why the trumpets and trombones are more common in jazz? Thank you. Sorry about the weird questions but I am just wondering. Thank you :)

Are you familiar with a French Horn player named Rick Todd. Rick was a protigy of Vince De Rosa at USC in the late 1970's and in addition to being a classical soloist, he plays studio work and plays jazz horn. He taught at USC but now I believe he is teaching in Miami.

I hate that many conductors are not open to the idea of french horn doing jazz which is awful cause a french horn can be an amazing jazz instrument, im a hornist myself and i plan on doing jazz at my school soo woo

That is a Hans Hoyer compensating triple Horn, generously loaned to me by a colleague. I really enjoyed that Horn but it was VERY different from the Paxman descant that I played for the majority of my career.

Check out Paul Hanson and MIke Rabinovitz (I think that's how he spells it), two amazing jazz bassoonists!

I love jazz with insteresting instruments! Simply wonderful sound ;) I played bassoon and as i grown older i wanted to do jazz with it. But in the end i ended up selling it for a selmer sax, ust becouse the sound is more familiar in this genre. Im fine now, sax is cool but musicians like you realy make me want to buy a bassoon again ;) thank you!

Wow! I played french horn in my high school and college years, but I never thought of french horn as a jazz instrument. Very nice.

Thank you very much! I really liked this horn, even though I didn' t end up keeping it. Very easy to play and I'm glad you liked it.
