Oh, I was just MAD about Freda when I was growing up. I was ten years old in the summer of 1970 when 'Band of Gold' was one of the songs that ruled AM Top 40 radio (1050 CHUM here in Toronto where it went to #1 in late June). I bought the '45 and, in the fall of 1970, the '45 of 'Deeper and Deeper' and just wore the grooves off those records!

Great song by Freda. The background vocals are Freda's sister Scherrie Payne, Joyce Vincent, Pam Vincent and Telma Hopkins of Tony Orlando & Dawn. Joyce, Telma and Pam and Scherrie did all of Freda Payne's songs on Invictus Label. Also Pam Vincent, Joyce Vincent and Telma Hopkins did alot of Johnnie Taylor songs like: "Cheaper To Keep Her", "I Believe In You" (You Believe In Me) and then Pam Vincent had her own girl group called: Brandye and they did songs for Johnnie Taylor like "Disco Lady"

The Frank Wilson written and produced 'LOVE MAGNET' is also a fabulous collaboration. Stoned Love, Steve.

@pewmanfustudios Correction: It was Frieda's sister Sherrie Payne who was in the last incarnation of The Supremes. They both sound great today.

Freda's wonderful and I think Deeper and Deeper was even better than Band of Gold. Just a great tune that shows off her range.

without a doubt, the more i hear motown, invictus, stax, holland dozier holland or anything like it, the more i love it and appreciate it. it would be nothing without the funk brothers, the great radio stations of the 60's and 70's and the djs who played them. wish i had a time machine..........

Good pick. The song sounds a little like The Supremes "Someday We'll Be Together." Another good song by Freda is "You Brought The Joy." She was also in the last incarnation of The Supremes with Mary Wilson and Susaye Greene.
