It's funny: I'm not a juvenile deliquent. And Frankie Lymon died on drugs.

From the deepest of my heart, I would like too much to be dancing this song with someone. Smiling, the eyes shining. Gosh, It makes me really melancholic. How I wish I had a real friend or love.

On this day in 1956 {December 5th} the Alan Freed rock 'n roll movie 'Rock, Rock, Rock' opened in theaters across the U.S.A.Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers were featured in the film; they performed "I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent"...The song was released on Gee Records, the B-side was "Baby, Baby", but amazingly, it did not make any of the national record charts...Frankie Lymon passed away on February 27th, 1968 at the young age of 25...May he R.I.P.

The wonderful thing about this performance is that they all look like they ARE juvenile delinquents

I haven't seen this movie, so I don't know the context for this song...but I can't be the only one who detects a hint of satire in Frankie's performance. Am I looking at this too much from a modern perspective -- and in our modern world, many young black men are stereotyped as "thugs" or "jd's" -- but it seems like this song and performance are mocking the notion that a young person of color should have to profess their "innocence" to be accepted or regarded as "good" by the white people...I mean, maybe it's just the time period, but the way they clasp their hands seems to parody the image of a "perfect child". Does the movie touch on any of this? What do you think?
