Like it or not, 1984 was the year of Frankie and this song was EVERYWHERE ... I remember being on holiday in Cornwall that summer and it was on repeat in all the bars in town. The tragedy for me is that year I was 15 years old ... this year I'll be 46 ...

They might have had good producers, but they could play brilliantly live. Just look at some of their live performances on here. This is a great version of the song, and Holly Johnson's voice is unique.

Good or bad there is no denying he has one of the most incredible voices in music, are you maybe a tad jealous?

Long live The Frankies! It was a big deal to have 3consecutive No.1s with your 1st 3 records. They had to be at least half-way decent. Nowadays any fucking clown can do it. Record buyers now are so gullible!!

I don't think Holly Johnson is dead, but don't quote me on that.

Didn't the gay community start hi energy music (tech no) etc? FGTH rode in on its coat tails. RIP Holly Johnson...

I feel lucky to have been growing up when this was released.

@srck The reason this different version exists is because the BBC Musicians Union insisted that any songs with orchestral elements had to represented on stage by real musicians playing or - as done here - removed from the version performed on screen. BTW Frankie were real musicians as represented by their superb live concert performances.
