I have been listening to Zappa for years and can only stand in amazement at the level of his composition skills. His early works were most exceptional: Weasel Ripped My Flesh, Burnt Weenie, Uncle Meat, Freak Out, Absolutely Free, Lumpy Gravy. Just the depth and variety of his compositions are staggering. I could listen to just Theme alone over and over again, it's multi-layered melodic and rhythmic genius. Just listen to the percussion, sounding as if it's about to fall apart at any moment while moving forward with precision and purpose. I can't say enough about Frank.

a close run thing between this and 'Holiday In Berlin (Full Blown)', this one wins it by a whisker.

Sure he disapproved of them. Is that why his first album was named "FREAK OUT!"?

dont believe what he would say to a "barking pumpkin" or a "vegetable" or a "rock"

Exactly. He put out, in his own words, "some of the most horriblest shit we ever done", but when he set his mind to it he was pure genious.

For a guy who "disapproved" of psychedelic drugs, Frank sure crated some great soundtracks for those who do.

The way the guitar solo comes out of the "fog" is just wonderful!

There are no words to describe the brilliance and beauty of FZ's compositions and the way he executed them. Frank once said, in a final interview, "it's not important to be remembered"....but man is it hard to forget him! NEVER! Genius is a massive understatement!!!

HELEMAAL MEE EENS.

The best single song I've ever heard. I was privileged to tell Mr. Zappa that at a venue in Athens, Georgia where, because sound system issues delayed the show to about 11 p.m. (most of the kids had gone)Zappa resorted to wandering about the dwindling audience. I called him Mr. Zappa. I gave him the fly leaf of a poli sci textbook I had brought with me to read whenever possible to autograph. That autograph hangs in my sound system cabinet.

I first saw Frank Zappa at the Prov Civic Cntr in May of 73 after John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orch. got of stage. The bar was set pretty high but Frank delivered. Somewhere along the line I thought it a good thing to see Frank when I could and I saw him often in those years of 73 to 77. And that was his most accomplished group in my mind. They had fun but they played the best. Later in the 80's the band played well but seemed to just what to make fun. I like the band that played the BEST.
