This is exactly what i try to convey to people in the past.. I'm glad I found this of Frank Zappa.. thanks for posting it..In 1979 PBS (and I think local station 20) collaborated on Stereo TV through a local radio station (I think KFOG or KOME) in Northern California.. one of the things they started to do was request people to help with making props for bands and their Video Inserts/Music Videos. I was a kid and got started the first week I volunteered. It was interesting to try and figure out what the hell the artist were singing about since most of it was esoteric in their own way or they were on drugs when they wrote the lyrics and it made sense to them at the time. Try and make videos to that.. Frank is right.. it doesn't have to make sense.. just visuals and colors and match rhythm in syncing video to audio tracks.

MTV is directly responsible for the music holocaust of the 1980s that eventually destroyed the entire industry which is exactly why practically all the top 40 music you hear today is absolute shit. What it did is make the industry realize that the music and even the artist was not important. All that mattered was image because the retarded public would still buy it which is exactly why 99% of all the music they promote today is karaoke performed by karaoke puppets.

Zappa doesn't just hit the bulls eye, he splits the arrow that hit the previous bulls eye right down the middle. Well said once again, Frank. As usual, articulate and honest, R.I.P. bro.

If you want to see recent music video done right, watch Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi's Two Against One (feat. Jack White). By the way I'm not trying to get channel views, just trying to get an amazing video and song out there. /watch?v=lF_C7BvAf_A&ob=av2n

The man's a fucking oracle! Music videos are the main reason why looks mean more than talent in today's music. A tosser like Justin Bieber wouldn't have stood a chance in the 1960's or 70's - but Frank Zappa, or Floyd, or perhaps even the Stones wouldn't stand a chance today! Now how wrong is that?

Frank's right as usual---I can't stand MTV and most videos edited to simply destroy your attention span (let alone limit your expressive vocabulary)....

Even in a suit and tie Zappa is still a rebel. What would he think about all the stuff going on today. It all a Zappa song waiting to be written. This is a lesser world without a mind like his in it to poke fun at the pomposity of the culture were wallow in. It's all image and no substance.

It's even more true today, unfortunately; pop music is largely a commercial jingle to go with the video.
