Phase III is not my favorite Frank composition, but I've only listened to it a couple of times all the way through. It is complex and far reaching, so I would guess for most it would take time to truly take it all in. I've only been fully into Zappa for about five years, but in that time, what I've heard is just second to none. I've listened to the majority of his works maybe 10 times or so all the way through, including many bootlegs, live stuff, and fan compilations, as well as much that still comes out of the vaults from his home. He doesn't always hit it out of the park, and has hit a few fouls, but this is one piece that needs considerable consideration. Kudos!

To people saying this song relates to Frank's death: This piece of music debuted in 1984 on the Thing-Fish album, which was 9 years before his death. And in the end it doesn't matter what it's about. It speaks for itself.

This final album of Frank's is a masterpiece. There's no one alive that even comes close to his creativity, talent and iconoclast attitude. I get kind of sad when I hear Dweezil's Zappa Plays Zappa stuff. Dweezil does a great job, but it reminds me of what a giant talent we lost.
