Forefather is an Viking/Anglo-Saxon Metal band from Surrey, England. The band was formed in September 1997 by two brothers, who adopted the stage names Athelstan and Wulfstan. They recorded their first album Deep Into Time at their home studio (known as The Croft) in August 1998 and eventually released it in March 1999 on their own label Angelisc Enterprises to reasonable critical acclaim. Their follow-up The Fighting Man was released in October 2000, and owing to improved equipment purchased in part from the sales of their first album was of markedly better sound quality, and was positively received by the underground metal press. At this time the band chose to release a collection of demo recordings entitled Legends Untold on the German Millennium Metal label. Engla Tocyme (The Coming of the English) was recorded in late 2001 and released in March 2002 along with a re-issue of their first album Deep Into Time, with improved artwork and a bonus track. Their latest album, Ours is the Kingdom was released in June 2004, marking the bands move to the respected Karmageddon Media label, and the subsequent improvement in the general quality of artwork and packaging this afforded. As of this time, the brothers are working on a fifth full-length album, after taking some time out to work with the Folk metal supergroup Folkearth. Forefather released the new album, Steadfaston the Seven Kingdoms label in 2008, and has recieved very good reviews in the metal media.

Most of the bands songs are impossible to perform live with just two people. They use a drum-machine in the studio, and have revealed in interviews that they do not like the idea of guest musicians working on the project, preferring to keep it In the family, as it were

I think calling Forefathers, "Viking"- metal is quite a insult, as they are Anglo-Saxon, not to mention many of their tracks handle about Anglo-Saxon restistance against Viking-Invasion

This album is a mark in time. Strong. Meaningful. GLORY, Steadfast!Spectacular song. It is reminiscent of one of my favorite pieces of metal: Mithotyn - King of the Distant Forest. The mood and atmosphere, the melodies, the speed, the guitar work in particular... Fantastic! 3:04 ... I feel I am happy, I feel I am at home. It's a simple beauty. I love keyboard synth, but for me it is a rare time here when I say it's not necessary. Forefather accomplished a sound to stand alone. To stand... STEADFAST!

The Europeans accidentally brought diseases and bacteria to the native Americans. Many of them died for their lack of immune defence.

Viking refers to the genre, not the origin of the musicians.

There are so many things wrong with that exquisitely overgeneralized statement. Do you even Type O Negative, bro? Peter Steele was 6'7",got any girl he wanted, and was the singer and guitarist for a metal band.

I don't think tall men listen to metal. Metal is for short men. It is a way for them to compensate for their height and smallness of stature. Tall men usually don't listen to music at all -- they are too busy having sex and making a lot of money -- but if they did, it would be something like Oasis or The Beatles or something innocuous and popular. Only people who are angry at the world need metal. Tall men aren't angry at the world, so they don't need metal. Short men are angry, they need metal.

I'll bet it's an absolutely beautiful area as well! Is there anything left from the original Viking age in or around your village?

My village was on the Wattling Street.

I guess not. (don't take the play "cockface" personally. It's just a play on "dickhead")

True enough, but why take such a grievous risk, the French were expansionist which is their only real call to power. The Napoleonic wars are a good example with the French and their jammed up crossbows. XD

The English could beat the French on their own, done it before. Be a lot faster with the Scots, Welsh and Irish though.

Exactly this is true, big hello from a fellow english viking of the north! Can trace my bloodline back hundreds of years to some classic danish/norwegian surnames! Not to mention all the men in my family being 6ft5 blonde giants!
