I kind of has a Nirvana touch. It's got the song outline for most Nirvana songs too, verse chorus verse (which is the formula for most songs but Nirvana did a song called Verse Chorus Verse, even though it has nothing to do with anything). Nirvana mimicked Pixies and Foo Fighters mimicked Nirvana with the quiet to loud affect. It's a great song Everlong is. Besides, Grohl and Smear are from Nirvana (Smear went on tour for In-Utero).
