It definitely looks different from most flutes I've seen, and yes it does have a weight to it compared to other woods. They are an extreme addiction, yes! I wish I had the money to get one or two more.

I love hearing you play NAFs. I picked up my first NAF in North Carolina 2 years ago, it is in the key of G made out of White Oak. I have picked up a couple other flutes since then as well.

(1) Try covering only half of the mouthpiece opening when you play. (2) Warm the flute up by wrapping your hand around the block (take the block off first) for a few minutes. (3) Play in a place where the air is relatively dry and not too cold. Other than that, it's just something you have to deal with due to the nature of the beast. No matter what you do, though, you're going to need to stop and blow out the condensation every few minutes. Hope this helps!

Hi Allen, I went with your suggestion for the High Spirits Red Tailed Hawk. You are absolutely right about this being a great sounding flute and easy to play for beginners. I have a question though. I am finding that whenever I play for more than 20 minutes, the area beneath the totem fills with condensation and diminishes the sound quality substantially. I have to remove the totem and let it dry completely before I can get a good sound again. Do you have any....

Thanks again! The G minor flute is probably the best place for newcomers to the NAF to start in terms of playing ease and pleasing tone.

G'day Bruce....I just received my Red Tail Hawk today and am absolutely loving it...I can't believe how easy it is to play! Straight away I'm making some incredible sounds...on the first day!! I am having that 'wet-out' problem you mentioned - I've been playing it all day and wondered why it only started happening after a few hours of playing and not at the start. I figured it was something to do with moisture. Now I know what to do so I can keep on playing. Thanks for the tips Bruce :-) Paul

Thanks for the video;I've been wanting to play for a very long time,& didn't know there were so many keys to choose from.Seems like F#m is the popular one,but I like they way the Gm sounds,but I want to learn a bit more before I spend the money.I used to play the traditional flute,so I'm hoping I'll be able to pick up on this

Jonah Thompson flutes are a great way to start out. They're cheap ($49.00 plus shipping for an A minor flute), they look good & sound great, and they're extremely easy to play. Go to the Laughing Crow site (linked under the video) and search "See All Flutes" and you'll find the JT flutes. Alternatively, there are Butch Hall flutes which are finely crafted & almost as cheap. Just do a search for Butch Hall flutes.

Great video and thanks for demonstrating these flutes and many others I recieved my high spirits high F# yesterday its got such a sweet innocent voice :) I am awaiting my tiger maple F# flute from laughing crow too hope its here in the next few days! Thanks again!
