From the explosive new album Ankoku Butoh.

Oh how fortunate we are,

Strange creatures in this strangest time!

The Noble Primitives by choice

Seen from the outside with no regard

Disappointment in those watchful eyes

Shaking heads of the dim-lived lives

Such is their fear of breaking free

Keep our Truth under lock and key

All this will Change

All this will wash away the sins of the Corrupt Age

Don't be afraid

We are the Underground

Their world is what they've made

They've shattered us for generations

Bullied conformity - the spider over the flame

Enough to tear our hearts to splinters

Force the choice but don't dare ask why

Close your eyes and let the laws dictate

By God or by Man: mass-manipulate

But to us, the Barbarians of Idealism,

Life holds its throat at bay

All this will Change

All this will wash away the sins of this Dying Age

Don't be afraid

We are the Underground

Their Hell is what they've made

We are the Underground

We are the Underground

And now we'll watch their fortress crumble

The flaming pyres have fettered out,

Relics of gavel and cross - no more!

We've born our smiles but silently waged war

We are the Savages, the true civilized

Let those called "sane" now lose their minds

For we know who we are and can change at will

Our minds and our hearts will dream what we dare

All this will Change

All this will wash away and we will build again

Don't be afraid

We are the Underground

Our world is what we make

Faith and the Muse is an American, underground gothic/darkwave band composed of two musicians, Monica Richards and William Faith. They are well-regarded in the gothic music scene as innovators and icons. Their music encompasses many genres, from folk-style songs to darker compositions. Richards is the primary singer, although Faith sings one or two tracks on each album. Their influences include dark alternative, gothic rock, Celtic, and other folk influences. Welsh and Irish mythology have often served as inspiration to many of the band's songs.

Monica Richards, a native of Washington, D.C., is a musician/artist/poet/scholar. She met William Faith in 1993 when her band, Strange Boutique, opened for Shadow Project in Norfolk, VA. Before starting Faith and the Muse, both had had experience in the gothic rock and post-punk culture of the 1980s. Richards had sung for the band Strange Boutique, while Faith had performed with gothic/death rock icons Shadow Project, Christian Death, Mephisto Walz, and Sex Gang Children. Faith and the Muse was started in 1993 with Richards and Faith exchanging tapes while Richards was still living on the east coast. Shortly thereafter she moved to Los Angeles where the duo is still based.
